It works like this: Let us bid on a project – we’ll work with you on a rate - and lock you in to that rate for all of 2009, regardless of WHEN you start production or post.

I am having auditions for my new movie "Aberrant Behavior" Saturday June Seventh at Mamma Buzz Cafe in downtown Oaklands Art District 2318 Telegraph Ave from 4-6PM. If your interested in the movie you can e-mail me at: aberrantbehaviormovie@gmail.com. I have already casted some of the roles and have people working on it, I just have not cast all of them yet and of course the female lead.

There will be some paid roles (of course the leads) but this is a low budget (around 25-35,000 or so) affair so it won't be a whole lot. Just to warn you.

Aberrant Behavior, is basically a love story about two self destructive anarchistic-y street kids who have an exaggerated form of pica, a disorder where people feel compelled to eat non-food materials, carpet, dirt, soap, drano, various chemicals, etc. as portrayed as a drug addiction. They have a very co-dependent relationship and with there disorders too , they literally destroy each other.

There's more to it, but that's the basic synopsis. If you can't make it to the auditions, you can send me a head shot with resume, or whatever you want. We can then decide when and where to meet.

THERE WILL BE SOME SEXUALITY AND NUDITY FOR THE TWO LEADS, AS WELL AS MISTY AND FOGGY TO A LESSER DEGREE. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT ME FOR THOSE ROLES, IF YOUR NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THAT. THANK YOU.

I will be hiring for many roles, all ages (over 18) races, sizes, etc. But here are the main characters:
Main Characters:

LEADS:
Victor Muertos: (Mid to late twenties) Half Mexican/Half white (Half latino/half white will probably work). Black hair, down to chin and five o clock shadow. (Flexible though). Tall and thin but not too thin. Dark, brooding, depressed, prone to long winded sarcastic, cynical rants. Living off the state for mental depression, and addiction, but eventually breaks himself from the state. He hates the state, and normal life in general. He hates almost everything. He is sort of sloppy hipster, slightly emo, slight slight slight goth meets street kid. Light or no body mod, piercings, etc. He eventually lives on the street because of choice. He falls in love with Aiko. SOME NUDITY AND SEXUALS SITUATIONS REQUIRED-CAST

Aiko Zumbi (18-early twenties or look like it) Half Japanese/Half German (or Japanese, or half Japanese/Half white). Shorter than Victor, thin but still slightly curvy.
Street kid with a bit of dark hippie. Has been sexually abused as a child. Prone to violence. Prone to long winded rants, or sometimes just total silence. Dark, cynical, with a very bleak view of life. Body mods, tattoo's, piercings, fine. Dreaded or colored hair fine as well. Actually preffered. She falls in love with Victor. SOME NUDITY AND SEXUAL SITUATIONS REQUIRED.

SUPPORTING LEADS:
Pedida Muertos- (20's -40's)-Mexican- Victor's nearly catatonic - mute drug addict mother, who is usually messing around with strange men, and drugged up. Mostly abuses Victor through neglect. Mostly shown in flashbacks, but one scene in present as well. Young actress aged to look older in present, or vice versa.

Misty & Foggy (20's) two girls that Victor and Chad meet at the bar, who are wasted, and act and look like twins. Very ditzy, drunk, corporate, normal. They take Victor and Chad back to there place. Drunken debauchery ensues.

Spic 'N' Span (20's -40's)- One of the horrible mascots for the advertising firm Victor works for, "Spic n Span's Whiten it up" Cleaning product. They play racist cliched versions of mexican house workers. Think Samo. It's meant to be horrible, and it of course offends Victor.

Aiko's Father-
A militant cold hearted man who sexually abuses aiko. Must be bilingual Japanese & English

Aiko's Mother-
Always screaming at Aikos father. Bi-lingual fluent in German & English

VARIOUS:
Hipster's (18-30) Some with speaking roles. A house party Victor crashes.

Office workers (20's -on) Some with speaking roles.

Various small roles for the horrible commercials and promo's from the firm Victor briefly works for

Other roles as well-Not listed

Lightning in a Bottle is an interactive art & music festival, currently in its 3rd year at its current location in Santa Barbara, CA. Conceived by The Do Lab, an LA- based event production company that has created interactive environments within larger art & music festivals such as Coachella, Summer Sonic (Japan), & Electric Picnic (Ireland), LIB is an eclectic blend of music, art, performance, workshops and green energy that will take place over 4 days this year at the Live Oaks Campgrounds on May 23 - 26th. Powered almost entirely through solar energy & biodiesel, their mission is to create an event where participants can have amazing and fulfilling experiences whilst remaining fully conscious of the natural environment and minimizing their effect upon it.

http://lightninginabottle.org/2008/

Renegade Drive-In Movie Theatre (RDiMT) is a collective of outdoor-cinemaphiles that hold spontaneous movie screenings in random & covert locations, projecting a chosen film onto raw surfaces in unconventional locations found within the varied urban landscape of Los Angeles. Date & rendezvous point are usually announced 24-72 hours in advance and participants are encouraged to maintain a low profile when arriving at clandestine locations. Chosen films have been projected onto sides of trains, highway underpasses, deserted downtown alleys, abandoned buildings, etc. No (dark) surface goes unconsidered. Due to the barren nature of some of our chosen locations, the audiences must often bring their own seating, and of course whatever refreshments they wish to imbibe or share with others. We have yet to encounter any trouble from John Law, but the possibility is always there and well, adds to the whole experience.
The long term goal is to develop film scripts, TV serials and media entities which will espouse such ideas in an era of inane and mundane media.
This is a humble beginning in the internet era which has shown the power of ONE.

In the forthcoming blogs I will be discussing ideas for film scripts and TV serials, which I intend to grow into a movement with the sheer power of internet's bandwagon effect. In the future I also intend to include ads on this blog in order to start monetizing for the future endeavours.

So hop in and contribute if you too think out of the box and want a change for the better.

I'm making a film, that will be somewhat explicit in parts. Also, there will be imagery that needs nudity.
I am afraid that I will not be able to cut the content of the movie script, even if I find actors interested .You can e-mail me with rates, photos, questions, etc. If your an actor or actress who has worked in nudity and/or sexual situations, is comfortable with it, and would like to take on a feature narrative film as a major role please e-mail me or show up to the auditions. The two main roles are the ones that require it but there are others. If you would like to be featured in sequences that do not involve the main characters, but are part of dreamlike imagery you can either show up to the audition, or e-mail me with link to your work. Best place to e-mail:
theperiodmovie@yahoo.com

Here is the plot:
Aberrant Behavior, is basically about two self destructive anarchistic-y street kids who have an exaggerated form of pica, a disorder where people feel compelled to eat non-food materials, carpet, dirt, soap, drano, various chemicals, etc. as portrayed as a drug addiction. Who are in a very self destructive relationship, there perfect for each-other except they literally kill each-other by being together. A lot of psycho-sexual/self mutilation-masochism in this one. There's more to it, but that's the basic synopsis. If your interested in acting check out the posting under the talent section.

Keep in mind the budget of this movie will probably stay around 25-35, 000 dollars (already secured), so just warning I can't pay the highest rates

I have a new movie called "Aberrant Behavior" auditioning Sat. 1/19 3:30-6:3- at the Dark Room SF 2263 Mission off of 19th and Mission@ 3:30 - 6:30. (My first movie "the period" came out through Sub Rosa Cinema can be seen/bought at Netflix www.myspace.com/theperiodmovie, as well as various other outlets)
Aberrant Behavior, is basically about two self destructive anarchistic-y street kids who have an exaggerated form of pica, a disorder where people feel compelled to eat non-food materials, carpet, dirt, soap, drano, various chemicals, etc. as portrayed as a drug addiction. There's more to it, but that's the basic synopsis. If you can't make it to the auditions, you can send me a head shot with resume, or whatever you want. We can then decide when and where to meet.

I will be hiring for many roles, all ages (over 18) races, sizes, etc. But here are the main characters:
Main Characters:

Emma May (20's to 30's) Actress must be thin, because character is anorexic. Very fake, superficial, manic laughing. Very self deluded. She doesn't really see her anorexia as a problem, she think she looks great though she's obviously dieing and goes to extremes to keep herself thin. She is always dressed up elegantly and thinks of herself as a proper lady even when doing something grotesque . She is a head executive at a advertising/pr firm that she gets a Victor a brief job at, through meeting him in a class over there mutual addictions. (Brief Nudity /Partial a few times)

Caseworker Joe (30's-40's) Written has hispanic, but open. Larger guy, tall, built like a shed, a bit fat but not flabby fat. Very coarse, to the point, direct "Take no shit" kind of guy. Very normal, buys into the whole big house in the suburbs, good job, etc. He is Victor's Caseworker, and is tired of Victor's Shit, and believes he is not trying to quit. (None)

Glitters- a gay gangster rapper, take everything that's a cliche and horrible about it and flip it so that it's gay (some, will also need male models)

Pedida Muertos-Victors Mother. A nearly catatonic morally apprehensive drug addict who's always sleeping with random guys and ignoring her child (Some nudity/sexual situations can be negotiated to less)

And then random visuals, nudes for some flashback scenes (of some sort of psuedo porn the main characer shot) a girl that Victor sleeps with before he falls in love with Zumbi (requires brief nudity/sexuality) and some body part imagery that will not feature the face of the actor/actress, among other thing

I need before I even start:
Prostethetics/Makeup- There are many parts of my movie that need gore, ghoulish makeup or creating body casts for dreamlike effect (like a scene where they fall onto the ground and break like porcelain blood-paint spraying out of them creating a heart) but most importantly I need someone who can help make someone look anorexic, eye sockets reccessed , hips sticking out, ribs sticking out, shoulder blades, etc. I can't start without this because it's one of the main characters.

Boom-I have someone lined up for operating boom/mixing sound, but I'm not sure he'll always be available. I need someone who has at least some experience in this to help. I have equipment but having (better?) equipment would be great.

Props- It would be great to have someone who can assist in creating edible (or non toxic) chemicals, substances, materials for the main characters to ingest. It would also free me up to think about other things.

Lighting/ Art Department/ Set Design/Decoration/Locations- I need someone who can do a lot without a lot who can work with unusual materials. Who isn't too expensive or I won't be able to afford you. Also may be able to transform other locations into desired location.Things needed for instance underground bomb shelter turned into run down sorta apartment. Abandoned buildings. Offices. Fashion Show. A sewer, where the characters live in and eat off of trash.

Original posting:

Set Decorators/Builders:
Though the majority of the movie will be in real locations. There will be a few sets built, and sets that will be decorated to fit the movie. I am looking for people who have experience building sets (theater experience would be great) on a low budget. Resourcefullness in materials is needed (Meaning you can do a lot with not a lot). Building flats, painting, decorating.

Prosthetics/ Make-Up: Though this is not a gore horror movie. There is quite a few instances of gore. People who have experience in mold making, prostethics, sculpture. etc. would be very helpfull. Also people good at making people looking sickly or malnourished through make-up needed. In addition Emma May, the severe anorexic will need added pieces to protrude her brows and jaw, her ribs, collar bones, hip bones, etc to make herself appear much thinner. Actually a lot of make up needs from simple to complex through out the movie.

Vfx-Compositors- Though this will not be a special effects epic, there will be things needed. Good flashy two animations/composting for some of the fake commercials/promos. Possible fire and underwater animation. Some manipulation of the video -color fluctuations, shrinking an enlarging, simple morph effects, color globules to represent visual aberrations in the characters eye-sight. Some 3-D needed especailly those who are good working with modeling human figures. But mostly more simple 2-D basic 3-D stuff. I may do this myself, but send me a link to your work, and I might hire you for the movie.

Props: I will be doing much of this myself, but may need help in re-creating chemicals, materials, such as drano, soap, dirt, carpet, many other instances through-out the script, to create realistic looking edible (or at least non toxic ) substitutes for the substances they swallow.

Mechanical/Puppetry- Not needed for a lot of the movie. But there is a few scenes with Emma Mays giant snake like tape worm that slithers around. Also a scene where skull bowls start vomiting (have to read script to explain) Could do myself, just seeing if anyone else might be interested.

Lighting Designer: Though I will likely take over this role myself, and a lot of the footage will be shoot in the streets style. There will be a few locations that will be staying in for a long while in the script, and would like good, stylized lighting for maximum creepy effectiveness.

Costume: I already have a few people on board for this, but as this movie ends in a big Valentines Day Fashion Show. I am looking for people who could be commisioned for clothing for that event (and other sequences in the movie as well). Also, previously made pieces could work.

Underwater Camera- Anyone who would like to rent me an underwater camera, or who has experience filming underwater, this is needed for a few sequences.

Boom Mic/ Sound Mixer- I already have someone onboard for this, but never hurts to have a second position, or a backup

Pyro/ Fire Safety/Explosion - This really isn't needed for a lot of the movie. But there is one scenes where a whole room catches on fire (with possible stuntman that catches on fire, I made do this in special effects). There is another scenes where a home-made bomb blows a crack into a wall and makes it crumble. I want these scenes to come off effective and safe.

Security- Not throughout the whole movie, but there will be scenes where I will be filming in potentially dangerous locations, and a climax that will need crowd control

Legal/ Locations- I will probably do this myself, but if anyone has experience in finding or knowing of great locations, or securing permits for locations. I might be interested in working with you.

Production Assistants/Co-Ordinaters (I am sure you know what this means)

Music- I have most of the music worked out. But a band fell out that I really felt I needed for some sequences. If your music is post -rocky, slow core or has that aphex twin meets godspeed you black emperor I may be interested. The kind of bands I'm looking for: Mew, Godspeed you black emperor, Explosions in the sky, Spiritualized, 65 days of static, Sigur Ros. Also in some music Portis-Heady could work.

Thanks
-Jason

My plan is to be able to do weddings/corporate/performance gigs for work and some low budget film stuff for fun. I'm looking for any input on the various accessories I'm planning on getting and if there are any must-have items I am forgetting about in the initial purchase.

Camera:
Panasonic DVX100B - I really want the HVX200, but it's would totally blow my budget.

Mics:
Wireless lav: http://www.fullcompass.com/product/326818.html
Shotgun with boom pole: http://www.guygraphics.com/GGPROD-19000.html

Plus a couple of 8 hour batteries, a hard case and good headphones.

I've already got a decent tripod and a homemade steadycam.

Phase 2 would be getting a better tripod and perhaps a jib arm, remote zoom/iris controls, wide angle and telephoto attachment lenses and some lighting stuff.

If you think you have an amazing and interesting story that's been captured on videotape or film, we would like to give you the ability to share it. We also want the people who are providing the footage to help shape the story and they will work with the producers to tell the story.

This could be anything from taping their own adventures - to taping your friends and family during an incredibly difficult time - to videotaping the last few weeks of a loved one before they passed.
I was thinking MythTv or something directly on the computer, but how would I get the video signal from the camera's composit out to coax, so it can go 2 rooms away to where a computer is?

The prices on Security DVR systems seem pretty good but I can not find details on video quality or if I can get the video off of them in digital format. This would be good because I can set it up right where the camera is.

I found as I moved through different areas with different temperatures and humidity my lens would frequently fog up with condensation. Any ideas to solve this? Someone suggested maybe putting some of those HotPaws chemical warmers on the lens with some elastic.

The other problem was lighting. Bringing a generator down was not only impractical, but possibly dangerous in a confined space. One of the photographers I was with brought some road flares which created a lot of light, but the flares were red, essentially making the image monochromatic. On top of that the flares very quickly started to flicker.

My budget is pretty much nil, but any ideas or advice on shooting in these conditions would be appreciated.

I am getting ready to buy the Panasonic HVX200. I am having trouble deciding on a Shotgun Mic. I have read so many reviews from different forums on various websites.

I had worked at a television station (using Sony XDCAM and Beta SP cameras) where I covered everything from Educational, Entertainment (concerts - B-Roll), premieres), Sports (NASCAR, B-Roll of Soccer Games, etc.), Reality to Documentary, etc.

I know I will be covering these events for various production companies but I will also be getting more into filming.

I hope I can get some good advice from someone that has already been in this situation or going through it now.
Also, I am buying a Wireless Handheld Mic for interviews, so I will have this in my package. (Sennheiser EW100ENG-G2 with a Sennheiser Mic, Probably the MD46

1) how good is the HVX200's on camera mic? What is it compared to? (ex. is it better than the lower end shotgun mics?)

2) what will be a good shotgun mic (this will be mounted on Camera) to use for ENG style shooting (as stated above). I hope I can have a choice of around 3 to choose from. I know Sony uses the ECM 672 on their XDCAMs, however, these are $500+, and I think they're too big for the HVX200.

3) as far as getting a shotgun mic for filming (using a boom), I figure I can always rent one or buy one when the time arrives.

Thanks for all your imput.

I'll be shooting SD and providing edited DVDs of performances with the option of digital stills as well. I was thinking of charging a half day rate for each performance which I figure at $250 Canadian and another $250 for editing and burning. That sound reasonable? Am I low balling?

This has all been created at HD resolution (720p) and has only been mixed down to DVD resolution at the last stage to keep the pi9cture quality as high as possible for projection and large screen playback. Needless to say the picture quality looks great and it should be an excellent DVD just in time for christmas =).

How can I get the data or info to burn onto another tape or bring into FCP with the date an time stamp? I cant just burn a 3rd party CG date and time because the video starts and stops and an accurate representation of the actual moment in time is needed for legal reasons.

We began a documentary in Paris and Turkey last year, and now as it gets warmer in Turkey we are going to complete it. We have a US distributor, and everyone involved will share in profits. It could be quite profitable for you and a real life changer. We are in pre-production of three others...one on black jazz in Paris after WWII until now. We have a Turkish captain/crew/cook on our 70' Gulet, 6 double staterooms still available, all with their own head (toilet and shower). Qualifications? Simply to be able to get along with people. Age? Our producer is 60, our editor is 25. Age inmaterial if you are young in spirit. If you have video experience (HD MiniDV PAL and Final Cut Pro, writing) all the better, but we are doing this to perhaps expand the focus of our documentary which is based on the mystical aspects of Alexander the Great - Title: Force of Evidence. Creative people get free reign as long as they don't sink the ship or the project. We are interested to add some human interest...profound, provocative, funny...to the program, so film making experience in not a requirement. Come for a week or two months. Email me for details.

We're looking for the kind of stuff we'll think is so amazing we'll want to pass on to our friends, family, office-mates, and nearby impressionable infants. And then we'll award selected entries with things like cash, shirts, syrup, and other crazy prize stuffs.

And luckily this festival is free to submit to. No more pesky registration fees when all you have to do is have access to the Internet and be able to press an upload button. But perhaps the best part of registering for Zannel Fest, in addition to prizes, is that you’ll also be (if you want!) one of the very first users of an almost launched content sharing network that encompasses mobile phones, the Internet, and possibly a device that hasn't been invented yet, like the PK-109 Video Helmet.

This airing is sadly only available inside San Francisco on Cable (EATV), but it has already aired 4 times on the 127 outlets in the state of California that are supplied by the CCCSAT satellite (we got picked up in April, aired in April and May).
I would be most grateful for viewers, and following that, any feedback that might make future projects quality.
This is a very exciting thing for all of us here, and hopefully is one of the many fractured introductions that Whaddya Gonna Do About It? Productions have been leaking out for the last few years.
Our first feature, which predates 30.30 by one year, will be releasing soon, so there is a huge amount of product in the pipeline coming out soon for those who like our styles.

This was a history making endeavor that has been universally reacted to with shock and awe. No one in history had ever attempted to make 30 films in 30 days, but we attempted and succeeded.

Please support this and forward to as many people as you can. A single shot is all most of us will ever get... I have been very fortunate, blessed really, to be able to achieve some of my dreams, but they need to be shared with an audience, and there is no better audience than that of my peers and fellow artists.

Thank you very very sincerely.

www.authentic-unifying.com/film.html

PROJECT
We are presently in production of a wonderful documentary film entitled, In the Heart of the Deathless, which explores the vitality for life which is to be found through a direct confrontation with death. Production has grown to such a degree that we now seek additional assistance to satisfy the basic needs of production.

POSITION
We seek individuals with prior experience for two positions:
1) On-Set Assistant: Help set-up and strike the lights and sound for a basic “interview-style” film-set. Several interviews may be scheduled during the week (Thurs – Sat) throughout the SF Bay Area and elsewhere. Each interview lasts no more than two hours, necessitating a maximum 3-hour time commitment from PAs. All filming is scheduled a minimum of ten-days in advance and you will be notified upon scheduling.
2) Off-Set Assistant: Help in office by responding to e-mail & voicemail, scheduling interviews, running errands, and sending postal mail. Position may also include the possibility for grant-writing, web-design, and public relations / marketing.

COMPENSATION
Both Production Assistant positions will receive credit in the film.
1) On-Set Assistant will gain invaluable filmmaking experience and a unique opportunity to meet some of the world’s most prominent scholars and spiritual leaders of our time. We also agree to provide one “craft service” meal per shoot.
2) Off-Set Assistant will receive a percentage of whatever moneys are generated by their direct assistance with the film (in terms of grant-writing, marketing, and general public-relations).

REQUISITE SKILLS:
1) On Set Assistant:
Filmmaking Experience / Technical skills
Organized & Personable / Able to work well with others
Punctual & Efficient / Capable of receiving and accomplishing necessary tasks promptly
Grant Writing / Sufficient writing skills for drawing up proposals from grants from template
Transportation / Valid and current driver’s license and vehicle

2) Off-Set Assistant:
Secretarial Skills / Appropriate phone presence and message-keeping
Organized & Personable / Able to work well with others
Punctual & Efficient / Capable of receiving and accomplishing necessary tasks promptly
Grant Writing / Sufficient writing skills for drawing up proposals from grants from template
Transportation / Valid and current driver’s license and vehicle

All interested applicants should please send resumes (replete with contact information, all prior education and filmmaking / secretarial job experience, and no fewer than two professional references) to:
Dan@authentic-unifying.com.

Upon receipt of your resume, we will be in contact with you to schedule an in-person interview.

Individuals with access to additional resources of film production (e.g., professionals, equipment, & financing) are encouraged to apply.

We sincerely feel that this film is desperately needed to be made, not only by those who have been diagnosed with terminal illness and their caretakers, but by the culture at large who have become so blinded by the lights of youth and beauty that they have lost sight of what is most valuable.

Please help us with your time and support by contacting us directly or sending this position request to any others who you feel may be interested in working with us on this film. Together, we can begin to make the difference that makes a difference.
In a wild, sleepless weekend, you and a team will make
a movie--write, shoot, edit and score it. From
scratch. In 48 hours. On Friday, June 23rd, you'll
get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a
genre, all to include in your movie. By Sunday, June
25th, the movie must be complete. It will show at San
1. FORM A TEAM. If you can rustle up enough folks to
2. JOIN A TEAM. If you're interested in
participating, but not by leading a team, you can still
definitely be involved! There will be happy hours
where folks can meet team leaders and join their

After spending a lot of time figuring out how to make my show into a one hour reality show appropriate for network TV, how to gain access to the top decision makers, and how the industry works in general, I finally have the eyes and ears of some of the biggest production companies in LA and NYC.

I have a 30 minute tape that I need edited down to about 10 minutes or so. The tape is high 8 and I do have a high 8 video camera so you can transfer the data to your computer.
I am operating a student budget so I am sorry I can’t offer any money in exchange for your work, however this is going to be reviewed and seen by all of the major players in the TV industry and could be a great resume builder.

Hello Everyone,

Once Upon a time in a Digital Village is a distance learning project that will be hosting Stephen Ujlaki, Chairman of SFSU's Cinema Department. I am organizing this event as a project for a graduate Distance Education class. All ITEC and Cinema students, along with alumni and others with an interest in Film Producing are welcome to participate.

On Tuesday Dec. 13th, 2005 between 6 pm and 7 pm, Prof. Ujlaki will be giving a one hour intensive "What is Producing" seminar, during the 442 Cinema class in Producing Film and visual media. This is a highly sought after advanced class in the art, and business, of Producing Film and other media projects that are related to film and video production.

If you have ever wondered what types of contracts, talent releases, and various waivers are needed to produce a film or documentary piece that can get distribution or be allowed into film festivals, then this is a rare opportunity to learn and ask questions from an industry profession. An industry professional who is the Chair of SFSU Cinema Dept. and dedicated to pulling away the "veil" of the Film Industry juggernaut's inner workings so students can approach their career with a solid knowledge of industry standards and not a pocket full of mysteries and rumors.

A portion of this project will be conducted in the Collaboratorium (Burk Hall Room 229) with students participating through two-way video and text conferencing. There will be full video and audio support in the Collaboratorium. To use text as a remote communication tool, we will be using Skype (if you want to connect remotely using Skype you will have to download Skype (from www.skype.com) and login use the Skype Chat utility) - we may arrange a second option also, email Robert (me) to get an update on this.

To be included in this project please RSVP to; rlf4productions@gmail.com, as feeds will be limited (to the first 200 online participants), as will the seats at the Collaboratorium – we may arrange special seating in select cases as needed for those alumni and students who are involved with media production or who maybe for their work or program.

***If you are a Tribe member note that (and which Tribe - ei.: Film makers, DV, editing, etc.) in your email and I will do my best to get you all set up. Please contact me before 3pm Tues. as I will be running through the spec. test after that time to see how our streaming video transfer rate is clocking, as well as testing our feed.***

A bit about film producer Stephen Ujlaki, chair of SFSU Cinema Department:

Stephen Ujlaki, a producer of more than 25 feature films, made-for-cable movies and documentaries, was recently named professor and chair of the San Francisco State University Cinema Department, named one of the nation's top film schools last year by Entertainment Weekly.

As vice president of development and production for HBO Pictures from

1983 to 1988, Ujlaki supervised script development, production and post-production for more than 25 films including "Baja Oklahoma"

(Julia Roberts), "Last Innocent Man" (Ed Harris) and "Act of Vengeance" (Charles Bronson).

"Film production involves many of the same administrative, logistical and people skills: ensuring that financial and creative input into the screenplay is heard, keeping everyone happy without going over budget or hurting the picture, resolving conflicts, and maintaining strong leadership and direction," said Chairman Ujlaki.

Ujlaki was most recently president of Panarea Productions, where he produced such feature films as "Loch Ness" (Ted Danson), "Hot Spot"

(Don Johnson, directed by Dennis Hopper) and "Courage Mountain"

(Charlie Sheen) as well as numerous HBO feature films including "Stiletto Dance" (Eric Roberts), "Xchange" (Stephen Baldwin) and "Hostile Intent" (Rob Lowe).

Previously, Ujlaki headed the European Feature and Television Production division for Stone Group France, a production studio owned by actor Michael Douglas. Reporting directly to Douglas, Ujlaki was responsible for bringing productions to the studio, managing film budgets, overseeing co-production partners and managing all personnel and film crews.

"San Francisco State can be known as more than just the 'independent film school,'" said Ujlaki, who founded the film program at Franconia College in New Hampshire and has also taught at the American Film Institute and Brandeis University. "A degree in cinema could also provide a wealth of career opportunities in the film industry. If one does not wish to pursue a completely independent path, there are many other marketable skills that can be developed into such careers as writing, producing, editing, directing and post-production."

I'm on a Sony VX-2000 right now but will be upgrading to a Z1-U soon here... and will possibly be using an XL-2 on it as well. I shoot a lot of live events and a monopod would make my life and my shots oh so much happier (and my neck and shoulders oh so much less knot-ridden).

Attention Filmmakers!

The time is here again for the 3rd Annual National Film Challenge!
The National Film Challenge, www.filmchallenge.org, is the latest
filmmaking competition from KDHX-TV - a non-profit community media
arts organization in St. Louis. The National Film Challenge is the
ultimate stepping-stone for filmmakers, providing an opportunity for
first hand filmmaking experience! Also, there lies potential for
your film to be seen by thousands of people in our online screening
room, www.filmchallenge.org/view2004.htm. Register now, and
accelerate your filmmaking career!

What is the National Film Challenge?

It's your chance to stop talking and start filming! The premise?
Filmmaking teams have just one weekend to make a short film. All
creativity - writing, shooting, editing and adding a musical
soundtrack - must occur beginning Friday evening at 7 p.m. on
October 21, 2005 and ending Monday October 24, 2005. On Friday, to
make things interesting, each team is e-mailed a genre for its film,
a character, a prop and a line of dialogue that must appear in each
team's movie. Then the film must be sent to National Film Challenge
Headquarters with a postmark no later than Monday, October 25. In
the following weeks the top films (determined by a panel of judges)
will be available for viewing (and voting!) on our website at
www.filmchallenge.org. There will be two big winners this year – The
Grand Prize Winner (determined by judges) and The Audience Award
Winner (determined by the online voting.) Both films will screen
with the 48 Hour Film Project City Winners at this year's Cinequest
Film Festival in San Jose, California (www.cinequest.org). And last
but not least, the Grand Prize Winner gets a free trip to Cinequest
to see their film on the big screen!

We already have over 145 filmmaking teams in 30 states!

How do I sign up my team?

Register your team at www.filmchallenge.org. This is going to be the
largest Film Challenge ever – 250 teams will be selected to compete
this year! Registration is on a first come first served basis. The
registration deadline is October 21st, 2005, and the registration
fee is $125. Teams can be anywhere from 1 person to 30 or more
people. Read all of the rules of the contest here:
www.filmchallenge.org/rules.htm.

Do you have any questions about the National Film Challenge? Please
check our FAQ and then use our Bulletin Board to post questions you
need answered: www.filmchallenge.org/faq.htm.

Since I am new to tribe, and all of this, but I am trying to reconnect to some world that may or may not exist outside of the obsession of my calling, I think it appropriate to begin with a long loud note of gratitude.
All my life I have been an artist and a creator. From 5 years old when I began music training all the way up to my most recent relocation to the glorious, blessed, and magical city of San Francisco, I have searched for the most fertile ground to plant my seed. I have found it here.
There has never been a place that I could make my cinema dreams come true, either for lack of resources, people, or environment. So I toiled away in all the component artforms of Cinema, Visual Arts (pastels shows in 20+ cities nationwide), Music (first professional engagement at age 10), Drama (3 years stage acting, 3 years musical theater, awards), Model making (age 4-30), animation (stopaction-4 years), special FX makeup (2 years), Sound recording and Design (3 years), Writing (first published in 1990, poetry, journalism, short story, prose), and of course the Video Cameras (started shooting in 1982).
Finally I found my nirvana here in San Francisco, an area so rich in culture, art, tolerance, diversity of demographic as well as psychographics, people, resources, and just plain old SPIRIT, that finally the seed took ROOT.
Thanks to this community of friends who are non-filmmakers as well as all those who are, in the past 3 years I have produced or worked on almost 50 short films, and 2 features, and written/directed/acted in my first 2 feature length films, both of which are in Post.
I owe ALL OF YOU, a debt of profound gratitude. It is the environment that YOU have all created. Supportive not jealous, encouraging not poo-pooing, constructive not destructive, and most of all BELIEF THAT IT CAN BE DONE, has been what I have encountered again and again from the artists, musicians, dancers, camerapeople, writers, actors, and muses that populate this (to me) sacred area of geography.
Where I come from, making movies is not a REAL JOB.
Where I come from, when you tell someone you are an artist, they say: "Oh, that's great, but what do you DO?"
I am so thankful that I am here with all of you, and not there anymore, because as much as I love my hometown peoples, I can never be, and could never be, what I can BE here.
From the bottom of my heart,
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

I have been doing freelance videography for six years now... I went to film school and look where it got me :^)

Anywho... I've owned a Sony VX-2000 since about the time it first came out and it has served me well, but I think it's time to upgrade. I have been noticing that most of the calls for owner/operators are requesting HDV cameras. I haven't worked with HD too much and I know it can present some problems in post-- any advice on HD or not to HD? Basically, though, I think I can get more work with an HD camera. For money I have mostly been doing events, weddings, concerts, etc. but would like to branch out into documentary and even reality tv work because this is what I enjoy most (well, not the realitytv part, but you get my drift). I am getting the feeling that upgrading to an HD camera will poise me to jump on jobs that I might not otherwise be able to get with a Mini-DV.

So, my question is first, do you think I am correct in my assesment that I will be able to take advantage of more opportunities with an HD camera and second, what cameras would y'all recommend?

I am in Seattle, by the way, but I am itching to move somewhere new this fall.
I can compose comfortably in the styles of: classical, electronica, alternative rock, jazz, bossa nova, flamenco, mexican "oom pa", spy thriller, tv themes (IE. How do you go about getting permission to use the music? It's crucial to the production. I can't exactly edit out their song and put in something copyright free.
I'm an aspiring videographer looking to buy a good, affordable Mini DV for class film projects and also for my own project of putting together a short documentary.

In the mid-long term, I'm looking to start cheap and hopefully scale to something nicer as my skills expand. I hear there are many good cameras in the market now for less than 500 dollars. Any suggestions?

Also a friend tells me that I should definitely look to get certain features (3CCD, mostly) when purchasing a camcorder, though he wasn't very specific. Are there any you can think of that might help?

Cafesociety.org is a UK based arts organisation which works closely
with many schools to develop creative arts projects with young people.

We work regularly with young people in the Yorkshire region of the UK
and communities as far away as the Seychelles, Ethiopia and the
Navajo Reservation in Northern Arizona.

Our projects focus on digital storytelling, film making and digital photography.

We aim to teach young people how to make short films and document their lives
by creating short stories about subjects and interests that they choose.

We have just returned from Ethiopia and would like to invite you to view
a selection of the short films made by the young students of the Jamaican
Rastafari Development Community School in Shashemene – Ethiopia.
Our intention is to link schools in Ethiopia with schools here in the UK
by way of collaborative projects and exchanges.

We plan a return to Shashemene in July to continue our work with

the young students and to set up links with schools in the UK.

We aim to raise enough funds to enable the purchase of 2 laptop computers
and 2 digital video cameras which we will train the students and staff to use

and leave at the school to enable a sustainable element to the project.

We want the school to have the skills and technology to make short films

after we leave and communicate their stories to their new partner schools.

Please let us know your opinions and comments regarding the short films.
